  2. AllMusic Review by Steve Leggett This is the second disc from Tomato Records' two-CD set called Early Years, which spans John Lee Hooker 's work with Vee-Jay Records. These sessions are as close to the commercial mainstream as this throwback bluesman ever got, which means he wasn't close at all, just not quite as ragged by degree.

  3. Hooker's voluminous output for Vee-Jay Records is scattered across numerous compilations. This double CD contains 31 songs spanning the mid-'50s to the mid-'60s, and is probably the most extensive and satisfying retrospective of his Vee-Jay work (at least domestically)/

Hooker 'n Heat is a double album released by blues musician John Lee Hooker and blues-rock band Canned Heat in early It was the last studio album to feature harmonica player, guitarist and songwriter Alan Wilson, who died in September () from a drug overdose. The photo on the album cover was taken after Wilson's death, but his picture can be seen in a frame on the wall behind John.

  6. Originally a double album, Tomato's "The Early Years" was reissued in on two seperate CDs. There's not even a picture of the cover here on Amazon, yet "The Early Years" is just about the best collection available of John Lee Hooker in his prime.5/5(1).
